Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

What should I do if a pipe breaks?

An overhead pipe broke in this Alamo Ranch home.

A broken pipe can cause a lot of damage. Lessen the damage by doing a few simple things until the restoration company arrives.

  1. Turn off the water - the more water the worse the damage will be.
  2. Turn off electricity - the electricity may be compromised if there is more than a couple of inches of water, or if the water came from overhead.
  3. Block furniture - use natural wooden blocks or foam to lift furniture out of the standing water.
  4. Extract the water - use a wet dry vac or towels to remove the standing water.
  5. Call a plumber - fixing the broken pipe is necessary to start the water again.
